Dec 10, 2012 - How to determine the serial number on a john deere 1010 with no,. Dont tell them it is for a dozer, about 40% cheaper then ind dealer. I contacted John Deere about the production numbers on the 1010 R and they responded by saying that only 1492 of the 1010 R versions were made. They told me that the 1010 R version was one of the more rarer John Deeres made.

I'm new here and new to tractors so be gentle... I bought a 1962 JD 1010 Industrial diesel to use on some land we bought in northern Arizona. I bought an older tractor because I wanted something I could work on and after I do some projects, fix it up. The tractor I bought has a John Deere front loader and backhoe so it should do what I need for now. My current problem is locating serial numbers on it. The place where the number should be according to what I've seen online is on the right side of the motor but I have nothing. The diesel was rebuilt about two years ago and I think that might be when the plate was removed. Old (two years maybe?) paint is over the spot and the remains of one rivet I think so it wasn't removed recently. I thought maybe the rebuild might have involved a block change and that might be why there is no plate. I've been told there are alternate locations for the serial number but I haven't found anything and need to know if they are there somewhere. Any experienced JD experts out there that can help me?
